Past

Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School and Parish was founded in Denver more than 60 years ago and, steeped in tradition and faith, continues to thrive today. The Church was built by a community of faithful families, who erected the now famous grotto by hand. Committed to educating their children in the faith, these families made sacrifices to pass on the Flame of Faith to future generations.

The history of Our Lady of Lourdes is the story of a people dedicated to the worship of God and the education of children.

· February 24, 1947 – Land is purchased in south Denver and Our Lady of Lourdes is designated a new parish and school under the guidance of Father Damen L. McCaddon

· 1948 – Construction of the Church and classrooms 1 – 4 is completed. Franciscan Sisters commence teaching their first group of young scholars

· 1952 – The center house and classrooms 5 – 8 are built

· 1955 – Parish and school are booming with 700 families and 420 students respectively

· 1964 – The current church building is completed

· 1983 – Kindergarten and After School program instituted to meet needs of modern families

· 1991 – New structures added to school including two more classrooms and the principal’s office

· 2003 – The Gymnasium is built – including Stage and Art Room

· June 2008 – Fr. Quang is appointed to Our Lady of Lourdes, recommitting the parish to providing the gift of Catholic education

Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School today offers more than just a building, a cherished name, and a strong history of Catholic education. We offer a commitment to provide the highest quality education in academics and Catholic moral teaching.

Today Our Lady of Lourdes offers many programs to enrich the education of our students. These programs work in concert to round out our students and mold them into upstanding community members who will themselves carry on the Flame of Faith.

· Play Like a Champion® sports program – offering lessons in leadership, sportsmanship and ethics on and off the playing field

· Dram Club events – presenting one major stage production each year

· Speech Program – showcasing grades 7 and 8 in city-wide speech meets

The congregation at Our Lady of Lourdes is committed to establishing a thriving community of faith, rooted in the joyful message of Christ’s resurrection. We promise to work together for the good of all, guided by the Flame of Faith.
